Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training Course
Our Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training is a qualification designed to enable you to develop practical teaching skills. This course will enable you to work in a teaching role and progress on to a broader teaching qualification. This qualification is suitable for trainee teachers, those experienced in a teaching role who are looking to gain a formal, or higher level qualification, and those working as assessors who wish to gain a teaching qualification. The course content covers planning, delivery, assessment and the use of resources. You will also gain teaching delivery skills and participate in microteaching sessions alongside evaluation skills and techniques. This qualification provides a sound introduction to teaching/training and is suitable for both experienced practitioners who would like to secure a professionally recognised qualification as well as those new to teaching.

This qualification may also be helpful for those whose duties do not include the full range of teaching responsibilities, for example instructors or those who teach very small groups of learners.

- We offer funded and co-funded courses (funding is subject to meeting the eligibility criteria)
- Each level lasts approximately 128 guided learning hours.
- There is a requirement for a minimum of 30 hours of teaching practice for this qualification with a minimum of 3 assessed observations.
- Assessment is through a portfolio of evidence, assignments and observations of teaching practice.
Units
You will complete the 3 mandatory units:
Delivering Education and Training – The aim of this unit is to enable you to use inclusive teaching and learning approaches in accordance with internal processes and external requirements, to communicate with learners and to evaluate own delivery practice. You will gain an understanding of how technology can enhance teaching and learning and covers expectations in relation to the minimum core in delivering inclusive teaching and learning.
Assessing Learners in Education and Training – The aim of the unit is to enable you to use types and methods of assessment, to conduct and record assessment in accordance with internal and external processes and requirements and to evaluate your own assessment practice. You will cover the expectations in relation to the minimum core in assessing learners in lifelong learning.
Manage Learning and Development in Groups – The aim of this unit is to enable you to manage learning and development in groups. You are expected to understand the use of a variety of management methods, for example motivational strategies, behaviour management, provision of advice as well as deliver strategies to facilitate learning. You are also expected to involve learners within groups in the learning and development process.

Progression Routes
Learners who complete our Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training qualification can progress onto a variety of other courses within CTP or with external providers. Contact CTP for information on progression routes.

- L5 Diploma in Education and Training
- Further and Higher Education
- Into employment as a teacher in the further education sector
Entry Criteria
- Age: 19 +
- Learners need to be qualified, proficient or experienced in the subject which they intend to teach
- All learners will be required to take an initial assessment of their maths, English and ICT skills
- Level 2 or equivalent qualifications in English and maths skills are preferred
- Must not hold an equivalent qualification at the same or higher level
- Funded and co-funded qualifications are subject to meeting eligibility criteria
- Must not be enrolled on the same, or equivalent, programme elsewhere
