Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing Course
Our Diploma in Hairdressing qualification is intended for anyone who already holds a L2 qualification in hairdressing and is looking to develop their skills further. This qualification can lead to careers in a range of sectors, including self-employment, spas and salons and the retail industry. This qualification provides the essential knowledge and understanding you need to help start your career as a nail technician, so if you have a passion for nails, this is the perfect course.
At a glance
The qualification is delivered in face-to-face classes with a mixture of theory and practical elements. There will be expert demonstrations of practical skills which learners will then practise in class with tutors on hand to guide and support. Further practise and study will be required at home to perfect skills and techniques. Learners will be expected to attend a minimum of one session each week in the centre, but individual timetables will be agreed with your tutor at induction.

- Courses offered through the Advanced Learner Loans route (funding is subject to meeting the eligibility criteria)
- Each level lasts approximately 541 guided learning hours. Approximately 10 months, 1 day per week
Units
There are 6 units in this qualification:
- Creatively style and dress hair
- Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques
- Creatively colour and lighten hair
- Provide client consultation services
- Hair colour correction services
- Contribute to the planning, implementation and evaluation of promotional activities
These units will be assessed through a mixture of practical assessments, written assignments and online exams. Learners will be expected to build a portfolio of evidence throughout their programme, including consultation forms and photographs from services provided.
In this qualification, you will learn the following skills and advanced techniques:
- Hair colouring using different styles (including full recolour, balayage and creative colouring)
- Cut hair using a range of techniques (including full restyling and creative cutting)
- Provide colour correction services
- Anatomy and physiology
Progression Routes
Learners who complete our L3 Beauty Therapy Massage qualification can progress onto study a variety of other courses within CTP, or with external providers. Contact CTP for information on progression routes.

Entry Criteria
- Age: 19 +
- L2 Hairdressing
- Minimum L1 English language skills are preferred
- Must not hold an equivalent qualification at the same or higher level
- Funded and co-funded qualifications are subject to meeting eligibility criteria
- Must not be enrolled on the same, or equivalent, programme elsewhere
- Learners will need to bring a make-up kit to their sessions, but a full kit list will be provided at induction
