Level 3 Diploma in Make-up Artistry Courses

Our Diploma in Make-up Artistry qualification is intended for anyone looking to develop their make-up artistry skills, customer service, health and safety and client care and communication to advance their career in make-up artistry in a range of sectors, including self-employment, photography, fashion and retail make-up artists.

This qualification provides the essential knowledge and understanding you need to help start your career as a make-up artist, so if you have a passion for make-up, this is the perfect course.

At a glance:

The qualification is delivered in face-to-face classes with a mixture of theory and practical elements.  There will be expert demonstrations of practical skills which learners will then practise in class with tutors on hand to guide and support.  Further practise and study will be required at home to perfect skills and techniques.  Learners will be expected to attend a minimum of one session each week in the centre, but individual timetables will be agreed with your tutor at induction.

Our qualifications are available at level 3.

  • Level 3 Diploma

  • Each level lasts approximately 421 guided learning hours.

  • Approximately 22-24 weeks, 1 day per week

  • Courses offered through the Advanced Learner Loans route (funding is subject to meeting the eligibility criteria)

Units

There are 10 units in this qualification:

  • Apply make-up-

  • Instruction on make-up application

  • Promote products and services to clients in a salon

  • Camouflage make-up

  • Media make-up

  • Design and apply face and body art

  • Fashion and photographic make-up

  • Client care and communication in beauty-related industries

  • Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon

  • Display stock to promote sales in a salon

These units will be assessed through a mixture of practical assessments, written assignments and online exams.  Learners will be expected to build a portfolio of evidence throughout their programme, including photographs of their looks and designs.

In this qualification, you will learn the following make-up techniques and topics:

  • Day and evening make-up

  • Historic make-up

  • Bridal make-up

  • Commercial fashion make-up

  • High fashion and catwalk make-up

  • Media make-up (including theatrical, TV and film)

  • Special effects make-up (including bruising, cuts and burns)

  • Camouflage make-up

  • Anatomy and physiology

Progression Routes

Learners who complete our L3 Diploma in Make-up Artistry qualifications can progress onto study a variety of other courses within CTP or with external providers. Contact CTP for information on progression routes.

  • Further and Higher Education

  • Into employment

  • Into self-employment

Entry Criteria

Age: 19 +
Entry profile:

  • No prior make-up qualifications required

  • Minimum L1 English language skills are preferred

  • Must not hold an equivalent qualification at the same or higher level

  • Funded and co-funded qualifications are subject to meeting eligibility criteria

  • Must not be enrolled on the same, or equivalent, programme elsewhere

  • Learners will need to bring a make-up kit to their sessions, but a full kit list will be provided at induction
