Level 3 Extended Diploma in Personal Training
The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Personal Training aims to train learners to a professionally competent level, enabling them to prescribe, plan and deliver safe and effective exercise programmes and develop their skills and knowledge to pursue a career in personal training.
During the qualification learners will cover topics including anatomy and physiology; nutrition for exercise, health and fitness; lifestyle and medical factors that affect wellbeing; planning and conducting of exercise and physical activity sessions, both one-to-one and with groups, within a range of environments using multiple resources; legal and professional requirements for personal training; and how to set up and manage a personal training business on a self-employed basis.

Level 3
Each level lasts approximately 390 guided learning hours.
We offer funded and co-funded courses (funding is subject to meeting the eligibility criteria)
Learners will be assessed through a range of methods, including coursework/project, multiple choice examination, portfolio of evidence and practical demonstrations/assignments

There are 12 mandatory units in this qualification:
Principles of anatomy, physiology and fitness
Professionalism and customer care for fitness instructors
Health and safety in the fitness environment
Conducting client consultations to support positive behaviour change
Planning and instructing gym-based exercise
Applied anatomy and physiology for exercise, health and fitness
The principles of nutrition and their application to exercise and health
Understanding lifestyle, health, well-being and common medical conditions
Delivering client consultations and health and fitness assessments
Personal training for individuals and groups in a range of environments
Professionalism and business acumen for personal trainers
Nutrition for sport and exercise performance

Learners who complete our L3 Extended Diploma in Personal Training qualification can progress onto higher level courses, or study a variety of other courses within CTP or with external providers. Contact CTP for information on progression routes.

Entry Criteria
Age: 19 +
Entry profile:
Learners must have some experience of gym-based exercises, including free weights
The course requires physical exertion, and individual participation is essential; therefore, a degree of physical fitness is necessary
There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should have basic skills in communication pitched at level 2
No prior qualifications required
Must not hold an equivalent qualification at the same or higher level
Funded and co-funded qualifications are subject to meeting eligibility criteria
Must not be enrolled on the same, or equivalent, programme elsewhere
