Level 3 Extended Diploma in Personal Training

The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Personal Training aims to train learners to a professionally competent level, enabling them to prescribe, plan and deliver safe and effective exercise programmes and develop their skills and knowledge to pursue a career in personal training. During the qualification learners will cover topics including anatomy and physiology; nutrition for exercise, health and fitness; lifestyle and medical factors that affect wellbeing; planning and conducting of exercise and physical activity sessions, both one-to-one and with groups, within a range of environments using multiple resources; legal and professional requirements for personal training; and how to set up and manage a personal training business on a self-employed basis.

The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Personal Training aims to train learners to a professionally competent level, enabling them to prescribe, plan and deliver safe and effective exercise programmes and develop their skills and knowledge to pursue a career in personal training.

  • Each level lasts approximately 390 guided learning hours.

  • We offer funded and co-funded courses (funding is subject to meeting the eligibility criteria)

  • Learners will be assessed through a range of methods, including coursework/project, multiple choice examination, portfolio of evidence and practical demonstrations/assignments

Units

There are 12 mandatory units in this qualification:
  • Principles of anatomy, physiology and fitness
  • Professionalism and customer care for fitness instructors
  • Health and safety in the fitness environment
  • Conducting client consultations to support positive behaviour change
  • Planning and instructing gym-based exercise
  • Applied anatomy and physiology for exercise, health and fitness
  • The principles of nutrition and their application to exercise and health
  • Understanding lifestyle, health, well-being and common medical conditions
  • Delivering client consultations and health and fitness assessments
  • Personal training for individuals and groups in a range of environments
  • Professionalism and business acumen for personal trainers
  • Nutrition for sport and exercise performance

Progression Routes

Learners who complete our L3 Extended Diploma in Personal Training qualification can progress onto higher level courses, or study a variety of other courses within CTP or with external providers. Contact CTP for information on progression routes.
